I’m sorry. You need to keep your ear to the ground and pay more attention. Most of the slang you’re hearing is flying right over ya.

5 – 7
All in all a good job. There is room for improvement but one could safely say you would understand most of the slang you hear.

8 – 10
Genius! A champion of your trade. You’re not someone that just understands slang but you probably create a lot of it yourself. Well done!

Cockroach Racing

Cockroach racing in Brisbane on Australia Day is a testament to the idea that Australians will gamble on just about anything and that yes, we love our sport. For all the flag waving patriots out there singing anthems, there is also another perhaps rarer individual who barracks with just as much zeal – the cockroach enthusiast. “If you can’t beat them, race them,” seems to be the motto behind the success of this sporting event.

The tradition began in 1982 after two blokes in a pub argued for hours on who had the faster roach. There was no way to settle this argument other then have them compete…and since then cockroach racing has never looked back. But the irony is not lost on the people and so it seems fitting that a cockroach race should be performed on Australia day. Also, a great plaque is also dedicated to a famous roach called Destructo who had once raced with such vigour and determination that the people decided to put him up on a wall. Some have argued that the cockroach, whilst ugly, detestable and extremely annoying should still be given the chance ‘to have some of the lime light’…at least one day of the year.
