A few weeks back in the town of Thargomindah a large mob of kangaroos descended upon the sleepy village. A great influx of kangaroos in the town has been blamed on food and water shortages caused by the drought. Other theories suggest that the kangaroos are just trying to re-claim territory and get back what is theirs.

When the kangaroos hop into town, the population doubles and in fact – across Australia there is 1 human for every 2 kangaroos. Kangaroos are usually fairly passive, well behaved animals, but when they become hungry and start to starve, it is natural to assume that they’ll adopt desperate measures to feed their families.

;Farmers in the area are annoyed that the kangaroos are eating their crops and aren’t willing to negotiate, whilst the kangaroos are angry that they are killed and shipped off to Russia. Whatever happens, the kangaroo, with its iconic status, large numbers and impressive jumping ability, is here to stay…whether friend or foe.
